My interview on 1stAngel

Finished

I finally delivered my pet portrait commission today but I was in such a hurry to get it out of the house before I changed my mind that I forgot to photograph the final version so I will have to go and visit it sometime to record it. They seemed to be pleased with it, so maybe I got it right after all. For the work-in-progress see here & here.

Lakeshore Bridge

7"X5" Acrylic on board

A familiar sight to anyone who tries to cross the canal on the Lakeshore Road at about 5:30 on a late winter evening. One of those situations where the visor really doesn't help. You have to drive one-handed while using the other one to try to block the sun without actually blocking your view of the road completely.

Gruber/Maklar Duo

7"X5.5" Pencil in Moleskine

I haven't been painting much but I do still sketch pretty regularly. It isn't quite as easy to use the scanner with my present setup so I have been rather remiss about posting these drawings.

On Friday we hosted another remarkable guitar duo, from Bavaria this time. Chris Gruber and Peter Maklar are wonderful musicians and charming, funny and considerate guests, Their concert at St. Barnabas was one of my favourites so far, just beautiful music.

Free-fusion Stereocomparison & the Book of Kells

There is a fascinating article on Medievalist.net. I am not sure I understand it but it points to a technique used by the Celtic monks that might well be worth cultivating.

Dawn on the River

7"X5" Oil on board

I found myself at work very early a couple of times this week so I went for a walk.

Dawn looks a lot like dusk (except looking the other way of course) at this time of year. This spot is right at the junction of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario.

Drying Rack

I got tired of having my little paintings festooning every window and door frame in the house. I actually made this very rudimentary rack to display some of them for a craft show I went to in the Fall, but it works very well as a place to dry my oils.

Winter Sunset 2

At last the days are getting a little longer. This is a sight that often greets me as I get out of work and start for home

Bust

3.5"X5.5" Pencil in moleskine

I mentioned that, when in Montreal, we stayed in a friends lovely house full of art. This is a bust of the owners son, now a grown man, when he was about 13 I think. I am ashamed to say that I can't even remember the name of the sculptor, but it made a nice quick study while I was waiting for my kids to get up and start the day.

January Window Plants

5"X7" Acrylic on board

I may have to stop calling myself a Daily Painter. The best I seem to manage at the moment is 1-3 a week.

Amarilii are always cheering at this time of year. I bought some primulas in the Market yesterday too, maybe I will paint them next week.
