Canada Day

5"X7" Oil on board

I finally finished painting my porch so I can actually use it as a porch and sit outside to paint!

I have day-lilies all along the front fence and they are very jolly at this time of year. This is the first actual "plein air" oil I have done in a long time. I really must try to do more.

Dayliles

5″X8″ Watercolour pencil on paper

This one is a couple of years old but still quite seasonal. The paper I used was a handmade notebook with handmade paper from somewhere in southeast Asia. I thought it might work quite well for watercolour and so it might, but it is a bit soft for pencils. Still, I quite liked the way this one turned out. It was another of my lunchtime daily sketches from before I started actually posting them and to be honest they weren’t all that daily really. The spirit was willing but the flesh was weak. The main reason I blog is to impose some self discipline when I don’t really have anything else driving me.

Daylily

5″X7″ Oil on panel

Daylilies are so brave and jolly! They also grow well in my very sandy well-drained garden, so I went out and bought some more today, a nice deep red this time.

The garden centres have clearance sales on already and I am a sucker for discount plants. I always think I can revive that poor little abandoned perennial, only 50 cents reduced from $5! I am often wrong, but sometimes I pick up a real bargain.

Daylilies

7.5″X5″ Marker on paper

a.k.a.Hemerocallis fulva. I was under the impression that they were indigenous to this part of the world, but apparently they are an invasive species and originate in Asia. Daylilies are everywhere at this time of year and grow by the side of the road and on abandoned lots. Hey, they even grow in my garden!

I used markers and highlighters again for this one
