5″X7″ Linocut print

I want to do some more of these, I started one this evening but I won’t be finished for a few days so I thought I would post this one which I did a couple of years ago. It is a bit rough but it was my first attempt since childhood, so I wasn’t too unhappy with it. It is based on this lighthouse by the marina in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
I have never attempted a multicolour print, I am thinking of adding a second colour to the one I am doing now, not as a reductive print but with a another block.

Sometimes I think that the world conspires against us artists. It is so hard to find a suitable spot to paint or even sketch. All the best scenes need to be viewed from the middle of the road it seems. I went out at lunchtime today with the best of intentions. I had decided to sketch the lighthouse down by the yacht club. I had done it once before a few years ago and I remember sitting on a comfortable bench and having a lovely view. Foiled again!
8″X10″ Watercolour on paper
I was determined to paint outside today, rain was forecast for later in the day, so how cold could it be? I went down to the lake, only to discover that whatever precipitation that pregnant sky was about to unleash, it wasn’t going to be rain. It must have been at least -5C (about 22-23 F), far too cold for this wuss to paint. So I took some pictures and came home. I haven’t done much true watercolour for a while, so I didn’t really achieve the effect I was looking for. Oh well, I needed a change.

Edit
I decided I had to have another kick at the can. One thing about seeing your work on the screen, it really serves to bring the faults to the fore. I mostly just darkened the sky, this is a little closer to what I wanted. The sky still looks a little too blue on my screen, it is more grey in the original.
