Annual Peach Challenge

7"X5" Oil on board

Every year I seem to need to torture myself by trying to paint peaches. Maybe if I painted them every day for a week or two, like Julian Merrow-Smith, I would eventually get it right. As it is, I fuss and worry at it for an hour or two and finally give up and call it done. The one in the background gave me the most trouble, for some reason I couldn't seem to maintain the volume.

Anyway, as usual I spent most of the day painting the house. It was the porch floors this weekend. I really am almost done. Maybe I will get some gardening done tomorrow, thank goodness for civic holidays. one of these weekends maybe I will actually take a day off.

Peach ACEO

3.5″X2.5″ Oil on paper

Back to work, one and a half hours just triaging the emails. Got home late and didn’t get anything done on the house today, but I did deal with a nest of yellow jackets which have been holding us up in the north-west corner. At least I hope I have dealt with them, we will see. J. threatened to take a picture of me in my moon suit, but didn’t, so nothing to show for it.

Two Peaches

7″X5″ Oil on board

Well I am back from Nashville. I can’t say I did much drawing, a few sketches of the presenters on hotel scratchpad paper during some of the slower presentations, apart from that I didn’t really have a spare minute. Now that I am back I have lots of house-painting to finish up before the winter, I still won’t get it finished though. There are lots of lovely peaches yet on the stalls, here are two more.

Peaches & Spode

7″X5″ Oil on board
I have been wanting to paint peaches for a while, I am not sure I have done them justice yet. When will I ever learn to keep it simple? The elipse gave me trouble again. I also wasn’t helped by having a friend drop by while I was painting. I resolutely continued, but I have never been good at painting while distracted. I did do a WIP for what it is worth.

EDIT
I did something I rarely do, I went back and adjusted this painting after it was posted. I am not sure that this is an improvement, but I had to try. This is the new version. I will leave the old one as well on the other blog.
