5.5"X7" Pen & Ink in Moleskine

As I am not finding time to paint I am determined to try to sketch more regularly. So, in an attempt to find some inspiration, I bought some new drawing pens last weekend: Faber-Castell sepia and a Copic sepia sketch pen.

I got caught again this morning. Double-bridged this time. The Carlton Street bridge is right next to Lock 2, and sometimes there is a boat waiting to enter the lock as another leaves it. When this happens they leave the bridge up until the two boats have changed places. They move very slowly, especially the one going into the lock.
Happy July fourth to my American friends!
An interesting day. I must have walked through half a dozen climate zones on my lunchtime walk. It went from cool and overcast to gale-force wind to blazing-hot sunshine to storm-laden clouds and back to sirocco-like hot wind again.

I have drawn and painted this scene several times already. That's what happens when there is a strategically placed, comfortable bench by the river on the Niagara Parkway.

By the time I had walked down here I only had about half an hour but I provided entertainment for some passing cyclists and helped them to avoid an extensive detour by pointing out that they were in fact on the right track to get back into Niagara-on-the-Lake. They were ready to go back the way they came, which might have taken them to Niagara Falls, about 10 miles!
I am going to be straying from my usual seasonal themes for some time to come I think. I still have a lot of material from Puerto Rico and I want to use it while it is still fresh in my mind. I got behind this week, despite my good intentions, because I had issues with Bell and was without internet access for three days.

Dogs seem to play a major role in daily life in Puerto Rico. Certainly in my family's life anyway. These two are Trigger, a Queensland Blue Heeler and Maybelline, a Sato. Trigger is a very energetic, alpha type dog and Maybelline is just the opposite, very laid-back. They both like to walk on the beach though, and Trigger, being a member of one of the most intelligent breeds, seems to have no trouble in telling the time. 6:30 am and 5:00 pm are walk times, and don't forget the b.a.l.l.
Apologies for the poor quality of this image. My moleskine got slightly wet at one point and the ink ran on some pages and bled into others.

Not much of an offering but at least I tried.

I went for a short walk at lunchtime and sat for a few minutes to do this quick sketch. I wasn't helped by the fact that I was drawing "contre jour". It was also a bit chilly and I didn't have my fingerless mitts with me. I did find a great place to sit however, back-to-front on the soccer bleachers. This provided a ready-made table.

I used watercolour pencils, "Graphitint" pencils and three different pens for this. As well as the fountain pen which I use quite a lot, I also used a Staedtler pigment liner and my latest toy, a Pentel pocket brush.
