So I decided to choose this one for my January Monthly painting. I have painted it twice already, last January and earlier this month, and it has been a popular subject. It is 20″ X 16″ and I hope to retain some of the spontaneity of the original while using the advantages of allowing [...] This little watercolour was done about 7 years ago. I thought about it when I went out to paint this lunchtime. When I got to the spot I had chosen I realized that I had forgotten to fill up my water reservoir, so I had to resort to markers again. [...] This is the first time I have done a true WIP for an oil. It is too bad it wasn’t something more successful. OH well, here it is I was so unhappy with this that I actually went back and revised it slightly after it was posted (something I usually make a policy of [...] These WIPs are kinda addictive. Here is one for Thursday’s post. For this one I did a tonal study on site as well as the photo. It was a bit awkward because I didn’t have anywhere to sit, and there was no shade. I use a sharp white pencil to reserve small areas, it works [...] Here is another work-in-progress. The photo was first heavily cropped. The next image is just the pencil crayons before adding any water. After adding the first wash I work into it again with more pencil. I use several different kinds but mostly Derwent brand; Inktense, Graphitint and regular coloured pencils as well as aquarelles. [...] I am on a roll here. Here is another WIP, yesterday’s yellow plums in my “studio” a.k.a. my bedroom. Just for fun I thought I would do a WIP on one of my daily paintings. This one is a watercolour pencil drawing taken from a rather poor photograph I took in Pennsylvania last week. Here is the original photograph. First of all I cropped it and used the “watercolour” filter in Photoshop to sharpen [...] I finally got back to these. I am still not very happy with the Sushi bar. The composition is all wrong and I can’t see any way to fix it without starting from scratch. [...] I have put another 3-4 hours into this series of four paintings. I am still not happy with the last one, it needs something in the lower right, not sure what though, maybe a garbage can. [...] I have started work on four new oils, all 11 X 14 and all based on photographs that I have taken around the downtown area. I am not really sure where I am going with these, but I want to try to put together a body of work comprising of about 12-15 paintings. I [...] |
